Doran Edwards (b. 1983, England; currently living in Bristol) is an artist using photography and sound to explore the relationship between the body, intuition and everyday life, to sink deep into the areas of human experience that words cannot reach. Owing to his background as a composer since 2006, he sees photography as music for the eyes, attempting to draw-out a purity of atmosphere, or mood, over any clear subject, and allow meaning to arise as its own outcome through visual metaphors and shifting contexts between fragments of the everyday world. This way of being that prioritises experience in the body over information and theory is a necessity of survival from the onset of chronic illness since 2018.
His works have been featured on British Airways, American College Radio, BBC Radio, XFM, Resonance FM, MTV; touring with artists such as Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks, and The War on Drugs. He has performed and exhibited as part of the Dulwich Picture Gallery Harald Sohlberg retrospective, Festival Classicos Alcala, as well as Café Oto with David Toop and Unknown Devices.
He is currently studying a masters in Photography at UWE having completed a BA in Sound Art at LCC in 2020.
